Drought's Bad, But Don't Panic Yet - The Weather Channel

The drought of 2012 covers more than half of the nation, but one of the largest producers of ethanol says consumers shouldn't panic about impacts to their wallets just yet.

Why? Despite drought conditions, the corn crop will still be the be third or fourth largest in U.S. history, said Todd Becker, chief executive officer of Green Plains, based in Omaha, Neb.

Seed varieties of corn and crop genetics have improved over the years, Becker said, making crops more drought resistant. So Becker said comparing this year's drought to the Dust Bowl years is not necessarily fair.
